Srinagar, December 31: In 2024, 29 army troops, including five officers, were murdered in militancy-related incidents throughout Jammu and Kashmir.
According to data from the news source Kashmir News Trust, these losses occurred during encounters, attacks, and operational responsibilities throughout different districts in Jammu and Kashmir.
One of the early occurrences occurred in the forward areas of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, where an army member was killed while completing an operational mission.
Agniveer Ajay Singh, an Indian Army soldier from Rajouri district, was murdered in an IED detonation in the Nowshera region, which is renowned for frequent insurgent activity.
Similarly, another soldier was killed during an encounter with terrorists in Poonch district’s Sanai Top. Multiple fatalities occurred in the Kulgam area, including the death of Havaldar Raj Kumar of the 01 RR in Chinnigam Frisal and Para Commando Lance Naik Pradeep Nain in Modergam hamlet.In the Jammu region, a violent attack occurred in the Badnota area of Kathua district, killing five soldiers, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), during a militant ambush.
Another confrontation took place in Doda’s Deesa forest area, when four soldiers, including an officer, were killed in a shootout with terrorists.
Lance Naik Subhash Chandar was killed in an operation in the Battal region of Poonch district.
A noncommissioned officer was killed in a confrontation with terrorists in Kowat Lolab in Kupwara, and a soldier was killed in a gunfight in Thregam’s Kamkari region. In Kokarnag’s Ahlan Gagarmandu woodland area, two troops were killed in a clash with insurgents.
Captain Deepak Kumar was slain in the Assar woodland area of Doda, and a soldier was killed in a militant attack on the Sunjawan Jammu military station. Initially suspected as a militant assault, the army eventually claimed that it was a suicide attack.
In the Chatroo Kishtwar region, two troops, Vipan Kumar and Arvind Singh, were murdered in a militant attack on the Pingnal Dugadda forest.
Furthermore, militants kidnapped Territorial Army (TA) soldier Hailal Ahmed Bhat from the Kazwan woodland area of Shangus Kokarnag and murdered him.
His coworker escaped uninjured. Two troops were murdered in a militant attack on an army vehicle in Botapathri, Baramulla district, and JCO Rakesh Kumar died in a gunfight in Kishtwar’s Keshwan forest area.
Another soldier, V. Subhash Varikunt, was killed in a landmine explosion near Thanedaar Tekri, Poonch. [KNT]
