On Thursday, March 20, former Gurez MLA and senior BJP leader Faqeer Mohammad Khan allegedly shot himself in his government-allocated quarters in Srinagar’s high-security Tulsibagh district.
Official sources told the Srinagar-based news agency Kashmir Dot Com that Khan was discovered in a pool of blood after allegedly shooting himself with one of his PSOs’ service gun in Quarter Number 9A.

Faqeer Mohammad Khan, Juma Khan’s son and inhabitant of Gurez in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, was an experienced politician.
He won the 1996 J&K Assembly elections as an independent candidate and was a member of the previous Legislative Assembly (MLA).
Khan ran for the Gurez (ST) seat on a BJP ticket in the recent 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, but he was defeated by the National Conference’s Nazir Ahmad Khan Gurezi by 1,049 votes.
Police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances of his death. (KDC)
