SRINAGAR, Apr 28: The government today shuttered 48 of 87 tourist spots in Kashmir, as arrivals at Srinagar airport fell sharply, and raids on suspected properties continued for the second week.
Yousmarg, Tousimaidan, Doodpathri, Aharbal, Kousarnag, Bangus, Kariwan Diver Chandigam, Bangus Valley, Wular/Watlab, Rampora and Rajpora, Chearhar, Mundij-Hamam-Markoot Waterfall, Khampoo, Bosnia, Vijitop, Sun Temple, Verinag Garden, Sinthan Top, Margantop, Akad Park, Habba Khatoon Point, Babareshi, Ringawali, Gogaldara, Baderkote, Shrunz Waterfall, Kamanpost,The other destinations have been well secured, and according to an official, some of them have been temporarily closed. Meanwhile, passenger traffic at Srinagar International Airport has experienced a significant fall since the Pahalgam incident.
The number of travellers passing through Srinagar Airport has dropped significantly in recent days, beginning April 23. On April 23, a total of 17,653 passengers passed through the airport on 112 planes, with 6,561 arriving and 11,092 departing.On April 25, 14,041 passengers flew on 100 planned flights, plus a few more flights carrying a small number of passengers (24 arrivals and 794 departures on four extra flights). On April 26, Srinagar Airport handled 14,783 passengers on 106 scheduled flights, with an additional three flights conveying 28 incoming and 351 departing passengers.
While the number of flights has stayed relatively stable, the load factor (passenger occupancy) has decreased. Srinagar Police are conducting searches across the city to dismantle terror-supporting infrastructure, as part of ongoing investigations into cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).They raided the homes of 34 suspects in Srinagar, with a total of 1000 house searches conducted across Kashmir.
“The searches were conducted in accordance with proper legal procedures in the presence of Executive Magistrates and independent witnesses under the supervision of the officers of J&K Police,” according to the declaration.
The searches were carried out to take weaponry, documents, digital equipment, etc. with the purpose of evidence collection and intelligence gathering to detect and discourage any conspiracy or terrorist action against the national security.
This decisive action by the J&K Police aims to deconstruct the terrorist ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir by identifying and prosecuting persons involved in such anti-national and criminal acts.
