SRINAGAR: A married woman from Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, left her husband to marry a Facebook friend in Uttar Pradesh, travelling 1,300 km, according to reports in various media agencies.
Abiral, an MBBS doctor from Srinagar, married Vinod Kumar in 2017 at the Arya Samaj Mandir in Mohali, Punjab. However, their relationship became increasingly strained over time.
Meanwhile, Abiral connected with Dr. Faizan Ahmed, a resident of Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, via Facebook.
Their online acquaintance became stronger, and in December 2024, Abiral made the courageous step of journeying from Srinagar to Rae Bareli to see Faizan.
According to published sources, their meeting culminated in marriage, which was performed in accordance with traditional rites.Vinod Kumar was stunned by the occurrence and filed a police report at Rae Bareli’s Deeh police station.
He accused Faizan of seducing his wife, alleging that Abiral stole Rs 5 lakh in jewellery, Rs 2 lakh in cash, and a mobile phone when she left. “The woman has expressed her desire to stay with her lover,” Shivkant Pandey, in charge of the Deeh police station, was cited as saying.
He acknowledged that an inquiry is ongoing and appropriate action will be taken depending on the findings.It was unclear whether she had formally ended her relationship with Kumar or merely fled to live with another individual.
There were no immediate details regarding her Srinagar residence.
