SRINAGAR, Apr 22: A fatal Millitant attack on tourists in Baisaran near Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district has claimed 27 lives and left numerous others gravely injured.
The attack, which occurred earlier today, has shook the nation, and officials are taking swift action to handle the problem.
According to reports received by Srinagar-based news site Kashmir Dot Com, the attack killed 27 individuals, the bulk of them were tourists, largely non-locals.
Shalinder Kalpiya was among those killed, while numerous more were injured in the incident. They are from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha.Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah plans to visit Srinagar shortly to personally oversee the region’s response and security measures.
Shah will hold high-level consultations with key officials and security agencies to assess the situation and guarantee that those responsible for the attack are held accountable.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticised the attack, describing it as a “cowardly assault against innocent civilians.” He directed the Home Minister to take immediate and decisive action to address the matter.
Modi emphasised the need for justice and the restoration of public safety in the area.
Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, expressed great grief and condolences to the victims’ families, saying, “The targeting of innocent tourists is an unforgivable crime.”In response to the tragedy, security personnel launched a large combing operation in the surrounding woodland areas, with high-level administrative officials already on the scene.
This attack provoked global outrage and placed a pall over Kashmir’s tourism economy, which had just experienced an increase in visitors. (KDC)
