The International Cricket Council board is gathering today (Friday) to decide on the future of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which is set to be staged in Pakistan.
India has refused to come to Pakistan to compete in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, proposing a hybrid concept, which the PCB has emphatically rejected. Mohsin Naqvi, Chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board, will express Pakistan’s position during the conference.
The ICC Board consists of members from the 12 Full Member countries, three Associates, and one independent director in addition to the ICC chairman and CEO. Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) that it will not send a squad to the event.According to sources, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) responded to the ICC in response to government directions, rejecting a hybrid tournament model.
The PCB also asked for a formal answer from the BCCI over their refusal to come to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025. Broadcasters are concerned about their viewership because of the ambiguity surrounding the tournament, and they have pushed the ICC to reveal the Champions Trophy 2025 schedule as soon as possible.
While the cricket governing body had planned to unveil the itinerary on November 12, the BCCI’s unwillingness to send its team to Pakistan caused a delay in the announcement.
It’s worth noting that the broadcasting rights, which were awarded to broadcasters for a record $3 billion until 2027, are heavily reliant on the popularity of marquee matches, particularly those involving Pakistan and India, which consistently bring the most views.
